Barron Park will show off its gardens for the second year on Saturday, April 19. The House and Garden Faire will feature homes and gardens for walk-through inspection, as well as a longer list of properties for walk- or drive-by viewing.
Flyers describing each property by address will be distributed at the beginning of the program starting at 10:00 a.m. at Herbert Hoover School on Barron Avenue. Selected speakers will be sharing their knowledge from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The Faire will also offer the opportunity of observing several remodels and the new construction now a part of our historically fascinating area. Access to open gardens will be from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. only.
Starting at 10:00 a.m., speakers will discuss home and garden beautification. The speakers' venue is the Multipurpose Room of the school. Representatives of organizations and vendors will be located at tables at the school entrance to answer questions and distribute information about their services. This year a plant sale will be held at the school's entranceway.
Speakers will include a city representative from the Planning Dept., landscapers, a Master Gardener, designers, and a builder-contractor. Their focus will be design for upgrading gardens and improving the maintenance of existing landscaping and homes, as well as expanding existing spaces physically and visually in integrated environments. Special attention will be given to Barron Park's problem of the areas between streets and private gardens, of particular interest in areas without sidewalks. Consensus is that improvement of these areas would vastly improve the beauty of Barron Park.
Another facet planned for the Faire will be about the street tree planting scheduled for late 1997, early 1998. Residents will be given information about the process and the variety of trees that arborists deem suitable for the area, and also a consideration for private planning and planting.
The House and Garden Faire is sponsored by the Barron Park Association and organized by its Beautification Committee. Shirley Finfrock is the chairman of the event.
